Description: Many fiber artists feel frustrated when photographing their work. Texture, scale, and depth can be difficult to capture, and the pressure to create perfect images often stops makers from documenting or sharing their work at all. This hands-on workshop makes fiber photography approachable, practical, and useful using only a smartphone.
Participants will begin the day by reframing photography as simple documentation, not performance, and will build visual literacy through a guided slideshow of real-world examples. From there, we’ll explore natural lighting, backgrounds, composition, scale, angle choice, and simple editing—focusing entirely on what works for fiber art. Throughout the workshop, participants will photograph their own pieces, practice multiple lighting setups, receive gentle, structured feedback, and learn a simple system for selecting and organizing finished images.
By the end of the day, students will leave with:
- A starter set of polished photos of their own work
- A repeatable at-home photography setup
- A simple editing workflow
- A mini portfolio of 3–5 finished pieces
- Greater confidence in photographing and sharing their fiber art
