Description:Learn how to work with a spotted fleece (focusing on Jacob), from choosing a fleece, mixing or sorting colors, fiber prep, yarn design, and fabric design. Learn first about skirting and sorting fleeces with a demo in my barn. We’ll discuss micron measurements, problem fleeces, how to choose a fleece to buy, and some characteristics of the Jacob sheep, including the variety of acceptable wool types.

Supplies that students will bring:Supplies are optional. If students want to fully participate they should have their favorite fiber prep tool (flicker, handcarts, hand combs) or any that they would like to try on the Jacob fiber provided by instructor. Spinning is not part of the class, but anyone with a wheel or spindle can spin the fiber they prepare. If students want to be sent the raw fleece and scour during the session, they should be in the kitchen with hot water, a large bowl or dishpan, Dawn liquid or other wool wash product, and a towel.

Materials Included: 6 ounces of washed Jacob wool including white and colored fiber – $20
Add 4 ounces of greasy fleece for $5 more.
