Description: Learn about the last velvetweaver in Spain practice by examining his Jacquard and dobby looms, equipment and hand tools. See his velvet wires and unique cutting knife. Learn about his weaving process with its 8-shaft ground weave and dobby or Jacquard created pile. See how the point paper designs lead to velvets, and the specialized tools needed for this artistry. In 2023 Dr. Germán Navarro (University of Zaragosa) invited me to tour the Silk Museum in Valencia, Spain. The Museum invited me to return for a 3-week residency in September 2025 to delve further into the Vicente Enguidanos archive. A Dee Brown Memorial Scholarship and the HGA Mearl K. Gable II Grant support this research trip.
