Session: Tapestry Weaving – Pursuing the Perfect Circle

Description: Want to improve the look of your circles? Come weave with me as we demystify making curves on a grid. We will explore: hill and valley threads in regards to smoother lines; formulas to determine lengths of flat sides in relation to the size of the circle and the warp e.p.i. ; graphed cartoons to aide in determining step sequences; weaving order; methods and techniques to fill in the circle; techniques to enhance the 3-D appearance of the circle; outlines and smoothing techniques; and problem solving. After practicing these skills, students will be well on their way to capturing that “Perfect Circle”!

Supplies that students will bring: 

  • A pre-warped loom with 12/6 cotton seine twine at 8 or 10 e.p.i. with at least 6 inches of width
  • Tapetry tools: beater, shed stick, needles, bobbins, scissors (your weaving kit)
