Description: Diversify your tapestry weaving skills by learning how to incorporate seed beads that capture light in unique ways, and wire to make your tapestries three-dimensional. In this one-day workshop you will learn the basics of loom-based bead weaving and how to combine bead weaving and yarn weaving in your tapestry. In addition to exploring eccentric weft using a variety of novelty yarns, you will learn about working with wire and how to conceal it in the weaving for structural support. At the end of the day, you will have the knowledge to weave an entire sculptural tapestry at home. Tapestries woven with this technique can be free standing or framed, creating beautiful decorative woven art.

Supplies that students will bring: Pre-workshop preparation instructions will be emailed to participants three weeks prior to the workshop date. Participants do not need to have tapestry weaving experience. Participants should arrive with a pre-warped loom sett at 10 epi using 10/2 perle cotton in a dark color (equivalent sized yarns will also work). Most types of loom are acceptable; you need to be able to get your hands behind the warp. Caution: the combs on Mirrix looms will cut the warp.
