Session: Mending on Knits – Invisible Repair on Knitwear

Description: Does your favorite hand-knit shawl have a pesky hole? Have moths gotten to your store bought sweater? Join Elise for a “darn” good time and together we’ll look at how to choose the right fix for any knit. Anything from a classic darn to invisible re-knitting!

Instructor:  Elise Webb

Duration: 1 Day

When: June 16

Level: All

Supplies that students will bring:

  • Homework: Please knit a swatch of fabric at least 8 inches wide.
  • Yarn requirements: wool (preferably non-superwash), worsted or DK, a solid or self striping color that is very easy to see (avoid speckles or overly fluffy yarn). Please bring at least 1 yard of this yarn to class.
  • Needle size: use what is comfortable for you. If you’re not sure what size to use, see your yarn band for recommendations. Use one size smaller for the ribbing areas (including cast on).
  • Cast on and work K1,P1 ribbing for 2 inches.
  • Plain knit for 6 inches. (optional: after 3 inches, knit a single row with a contrasting color. Do not weave in the ends)
  • Finish with another 2 inches of K1,P1 ribbing.
  • Bind off. Do not weave in any ends.
  • Please block your piece so it lays flat, but it does not need to match any particular measurements.
  • Kiss this swatch goodbye. We will be killing it.
