Session: Introduction to Overshot

Description: In this beginning workshop, Kathleen will discuss the history of overshot, as well as her personal journey with this intriguing structure. Beyond learning the basic two shuttle weaving for overshot, students will explore various wefts and manipulations as well as more advanced techniques related to overshot: pick-up, name draft, woven shibori, etc. Students will create their own sampler of overshot techniques to be used as inspiration for their own linens, fabrics and toys!

  • Dressed 4-shaft Loom
  • Warp & Weft: Natural/light colored 5/2 Perle cotton
  • 8 dent reed
  • 3 boat shuttles
  • 6 bobbins
  • One Skein Dark Color Wool Ease – Worsted size or One Skein Dark Color Cotton worsted size
  • Dressmakers tape measure
  • Scissors
