Description: Discover the breathtaking art of Nuno felting, a technique that creates a sophisticated, lightweight fabric by bonding loose wool fibers into a sheer base, such as silk. Unlike traditional “thick” felt, Nuno felting allows the shimmering qualities of the silk to show through, resulting in a textile that is incredibly soft, warm, and drapes like water. In this intensive 3-hour workshop, you will learn the delicate balance of fiber migration. We will guide you through the process of layering fine Merino wool and decorative silk hanks onto a silk scarf blank to create a custom wearable masterpiece.
What You Will Learn:
- Fiber Migration Science: Understanding how wool “travels” through silk during the felting process.
- Layout & Design: Mastering fine layering techniques to ensure a beautiful drape.
- The Wet Felting Process: Agitation, rolling, and “fulling” your scarf to perfection.
- Finishing: How to properly rinse and shape your scarf for a professional, boutique finish.
All materials are provided. You will leave the class with a finished, high-fashion scarf and the skills to continue exploring this magical fusion of fibers at home.
