The announcement of the instructors and sessions for next year’s conference brought out a few questions, so today I thought I would share a few of those along with the answers. (I know from my days as a technical trainer – if one person asks a questions there’s a good chance that others have the same question and just didn’t ask.)
Q: When will you open registration?
A: Registration will open in January. No specific date is available just yet, but we’ll share that on the website as soon as we have a date set.
Q: If we’re attending the conference in person, will there be a room where the zoom classes will be set up?
A: Yes. For each of the Zoom sessions we’ll have a room setup where folks attending in person can gather and watch the Zoom together. We”re working to make sure that those rooms have support to allow folks to ask questions as needed and get appropriate support throughout the session.
Q: Is there a pdf file with the information for the sessions and instructors?
A: No, currently that information is only in the website pages. If we get a lot of requests for this we’ll look into creating a pdf for downloading.
Q: What’s the costs for attending the conference?
A: Here’s the tentative costs for the conference:
- 3 Day workshop: $400
- 2 Day workshop: $300
- 1 1/2 Day workshop: $250
- 1 Day workshop: $200
- 1/2 Day Seminar: $100
- Thursday Fashion Show: $55
- Friday Speaker and Shopping Extravaganza: $65
- Saturday Dinner and Keynote: $75
Note that these prices are tentative. Final pricing will be available soon. Note also that the workshop prices are the same as they were in Yakima last year. Evening event prices are a little higher, but sadly that’s what food costs these days.
Q: How much is the hotel?
A: Hotel rooms in our block start at $159/night, which is pretty good for Portland. There’s more info and a link to make your reservation on the Conference Location page. Please be sure to use the link to get a room from our block.
Q: Is it required that you stay at the hotel?
A: You’re not required to stay at the Holiday Inn, but we’re encouraging people to stay there because the price of the venue is based in part on the expectation that we will put ‘heads in beds’. If we don’t get enough rooms booked the conference will end up paying a penalty which will mean less money for ANWG to support grants and programs. I know lots of folks will be sharing rooms, which helps cut the cost a lot.
Q: How many ‘goodie bag’ items will be needed for those wanting to contribute to the conference bags?
A: We’ve ordered 500 bags for the conference, so contributions for the bags should try to provide that many items.
Q: Are you accepting vendor applications?
A: Not yet, but very, very soon we’ll have details on that.
Q: On the calendar it looks like a class is 4 days long, but the class description says it’s 3 days long. Which is correct?
A: The schedule can be a bit misleading because of how the system is placing the names in the grid. If in doubt the class description has the correct days for each session.
