The theme of our 2027 ANWG conference is “Rivers & Bridges: Connecting Fiber Communities.” Given the location, this just seems like a natural. Since Portland is sometimes known as the “city of bridges” and the conference brings together diverse kinds of weavers, building connections/bridges between them feels right. Bridges connect the different parts of the city and region, and that’s what we’re hoping to do for the fiber community with this conference.

The Columbia river goes right by the conference venue before converging with the Willamette River and then flowing out to the Pacific Ocean. Rivers have connected distant human communities since the beginning of humanity: they are our earliest thoroughfares. The Columbia river originates at Columbia lake in B.C. and the Columbia river basin covers a lot of the area covered by ANWG – another reason that this theme and venue feel so appropriate.

Look for conference colors to be announced soon that will tie in with this theme and location.
