Session: Stepping Up – Open and Closed Coiling on a Gourd

Description: This coiled piece takes a lot of its inspiration from the Mimbres, a Native American tribe from New Mexico. In this class, you’ll be attaching hand-dyed Danish cord to a gourd’s edge using waxed linen cord. Plus, you’ll learn how to switch between open and closed coiling to create the steps and add beads for a bit of extra flair. Participants can choose from a variety of vibrant colored gourds, cords, and threads to personalize their projects.
