Description: Take a deep dive into spinning flax, the oldest plant fiber to clothe the early civilizations. We will spinning line, tow, and flax sticks, natural, bleached and dyed; Giant Himalayan Stinging Nettle, it’s refined Asian Cousin, and combine them with other bast fibers like Rose, Mint, Pearl, Seagull, and even Silk. We’re living on a warming planet, and linen is one of the coolest fibers you can wear, wicking water away from your body, and is antibacterial and antimicrobial as well. It’s virtually indestructible and has beautiful drape…what more could you ask for?

Supplies that students will bring: Your spinning wheel in good working order ( well-oiled, recently spun on), 4-6 extra bobbins with leader, or multiple storage or weaving bobbins and a bobbin winder, if you have one. Also a distaff, if you have one; some extras will be available. A lap cloth and/or apron, washcloth, and of course, your spirit of adventure! (If you do have a distaff, please bring several yards of ribbon or cord to tie your strick with.)

Materials Included: Every form of flax mentioned above, with Rose, Mint, Pearl, Seacell, Silk and other bast fibers, and a container with sponge for spinning with wet fingers.
