Jane Wilson

I have been using gourds as an art medium since 2005. Originally from Kansas, I developed a passion for vibrant colors and the diverse art techniques that can be applied to gourds. As a former oil painter, woodcarver, and pyrographer, I found that working with gourds perfectly complements my artistic skills. I particularly enjoy coiling, a basket weaving technique, and often hand-dye the cord to harmonize with the gourd’s design. My artwork frequently combines pyrography, painting, and weaving, creating unique pieces that celebrate the natural diversity of gourds. Each gourd is distinct in size, shape, and color, ensuring that every piece is one-of-a-kind. The creative process is dynamic, and I often change my mind several times before completing a piece. I am proud to be an award-winning Gourd Artist, recently earning the Best of Best of Master Division in weaving on gourds.
