Diane Shingledecker is a basketry artisan who lives in Portland, Oregon. She has been weaving baskets for over 15 years. She recently took early retirement from her work in higher education to pursue weaving on a larger scale. She is an active member of Columbia Basin Basketry Guild where she teaches basketry classes combining her 18+ years of teaching experience with her passion for weaving. In addition to teaching, she hones her craft by participating in advanced classes taught by nationally recognized basket weavers through her guild. She also collaborates with local acrylics artist, Liz Walker, incorporating Liz’s painted paper into her weaving.
Diane’s work is currently on display through January 17th at the Patricia Reser Center for Arts in their annual Curio Show. Her work is also regularly on display at the Village Gallery of Arts (VGA) in Cedar Mill, OR where she is an active member – both teaching basket weaving, coordinating the gallery’s Art Kits Grant which provides art materials to children & teens through non-profit organizations in Oregon, and coordinating the gallery’s yearly participation in Washington County Open Studios each October. Diane’s work has also been shown at the Multnomah Arts Center, the Hillsboro Summer Library Exhibit – Brookwood Branch, Beaverton City Hall, Lincoln City Cultural Center, and the Latimer Quilt Museum.
