Weavers talk a LOT about twill threadings and treadlings, but twill tie-ups are often overlooked. The tie-up deserves far more attention, because the tie-up is where the magic actually happens, and what separates one twill from another!
Topics covered include:
- Regular twill tie-ups: their ratios and underlying logic
- Straight twills: the tie-up IS the drawdown
- Cycling, rotating, and mirroring the tie-up in point twills
- Determining – and controlling! – float lengths with the tie-up
- Tricks for tie-ups: flipping them over, duplicating treadles, interleaving sheds and more
Skills required: Comfortable reading drafts, including threadings, treadlings+tie-ups, liftplans, drawdowns. looms, weaving experience, familiarity with drafting software.

- Drafting software (Fiberworks, Draft Editor, etc.) with which you are familiar. There won’t be time to teach people how to use their software.
