Deflected Double Weave – An Investigation Into the Structure and Yarns That Make the Deflections

Participants will learn about the basic elements of the structure of Deflected Double Weave (DDW), how draft, yarns and wet finishing contribute to the finished product. Once the woven web comes off the loom; participants will have the opportunity to weave 5 samples and wet finish them in class. This workshop will be a Round Robin format: Participants will contribute a loom, which will be set-up prior to class, the warp will be sent out by the instructor. Each participant will need to accurately follow the threading instructions provided prior to class.

  • 8 shaft loom table or floor with at least 10 inches of weaving width.
  • 2 shuttles / 4 bobbins
  • Scissors
  • Sley hook
  • Tapestry needle for hemstitching
  • T-pins
  • Weights
  • Bobbin winder (optional)
  • Please put your name on your equipment.

Material Fee: $50
Materials Included: There are 5 samples for each participant to weave supplied by the instructor. Yarns will consist of wool (shrinkers) and (non-shrinkers) tencel, cotton, bamboo. There will also be a handout.
