Tapestry Weaving Immersion – Fundamentals and Beyond

Come spend 3 days immersed in the wonderfully creative world of tapestry. We will dive right in making mini tapestries as we learn, explore and play. Our goal is to go home with a love of tapestry, and a proficient skill and knowledge base of tapestry fundamentals. In this workshop we will explore these topics: weaving materials and resources (warp, weft, looms and tools), preparing to weave (warping, set, multiple headers and footers, nature of tapestry weaving), techniques (stripes, meet and separate, hatchures and hatching, dots, advancing and receding in regards to hill and valley threads, pigtails, soumak, twining, joinings, fixing sheds, outlining, edge and turn management, interlocks) structures (weaving line by line, direction of weaving, shape building, angles, curves, circles), color (value, gradations, weft bundling, hatching, dots), design ( ideas, planning and cartoon development), finishings (sewing slits, sewing in ends, steaming, covering back, fringe and knots, hanging, framing). After this class you will be well on your way to becoming a TAPESTRY WEAVER!
