Bette was right, of course. Many hands do make light work. But they also make the conference such an amazing event.
Bend was my first ANWG conference, and in addition to serving on the conference committee and building the conference website I also got to volunteer at the conference itself, working the registration and help desks throughout the week. And while I met some wonderful people in Bend, the other volunteers are the ones I remember most. Folks like Michelle, Carrie, Patty – my mood always brightens when I think of them. And why wouldn’t it? They were always there with a smile, and were eager to lend a hand when you needed something. Whether it was unloading a loom from someone’s car or just giving directions to the classrooms, they and the rest of the volunteers helped everyone get the most out of their time at the conference.
And lest you think it’s all just giving directions or moving things around, there are lots of things you can do while volunteering. Just take a look at the calendar on the Volunteer Opportunities page to see all the different places and different ways you can lend a hand. No matter what workshops and seminars you’re taking there’s a volunteer opportunity that will fit your schedule.
When you’re ready to sign up, just update your registration to add your volunteer shifts. (Directions are on the Volunteer Opportunities page.) Most shifts are just 2 hours long, with a few that are 3 hours long. And don’t be shy. Feel free to sign up for more than one time slot! After you’ve selected your shifts they become part of your registration and will be included in your conference schedule.
Volunteer Registration is now open and waiting for you! Please make sure you sign up by May 26 when registration closes. Contact volunteer co-chairs Linda Stryker and Kathy Miner if you have any questions or need more information. (volunteer@anwgconference.org)
