Looms of Iron Age Europe

This seminar, a combination of presentation and some hands on opportunities, focuses on the major loom types used in Iron Age Europe (warp-weighted, two-beam, tubular, back-strap, rigid/string heddle), the type of cloth they produced, fibers used, and an overview of typical weave structures.

We will also discuss the current archaeological theories about looms in this period, and the evidence for their existence.
