Learn to Weave! — The Details

What is this event?

  • ANWG has voted to provide scholarships for twelve non-weavers to attend Conference and Learn to Weave!
  • Students in this class will be new to weaving on a four-shaft loom.
  • The scholarship will include registration in the 4-session class, and all the evening events offered at the ANWG 2025 Conference.
  • Students must be nominated by a current ANWG Guild member, and complete an application form. See details and timeline below.
  • Are you interested in becoming a student in this class, but don’t have a connection to a local ANWG guild? Go to  https://northwestweavers.org/guild-index/ for a list of member guilds and use the link provided to make a connection.
  • Students awarded scholarships will need to make their own travel and stay arrangements.

The class itself.

  • Learn to Weave! is a four-session class held during the conference, June 19-21, 2025. Complete beginners will learn how to set up and weave on a 4-shaft table loom. Marjy Fiddler and a team of volunteers will provide the instruction, looms, tools, and fibers for the twelve participants. Students will learn to wind a warp, warp a loom , weave several different weave structures, and cut-off – with instructions for finishing.
  • Note that classes start Thursday in the afternoon – participants will need to arrive and register Thursday morning. Classes continue Friday morning, Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Students need to commit to all four sessions. All but note-taking supplies and a scissors will be provided, although we’ll send those enrolled a list of optional items to bring if easily available.

The Nomination/ Application Process

A nomination process separate from conference registration has been set up for the Learn to Weave! Workshop.

  • Nomination form is to be filled out by a current ANWG guild member and requests information about who is being nominated and a short recommendation.
  • On receipt of the Nomination form, an Application form will be sent to the person nominated, to be completed with their information and a short statement of interest.
  • The deadline for the combined Nomination/Application is March 23rd, 2025.
  • If there are more than 12 applicants, students will be selected by a random drawing.
  • Notification to all applicants will be sent by April 1st, 2025.
  • Students who are accepted will be sent information about registration, and need to confirm and register by April 7th, 2025.
  • A waitlist will be established and maintained.

Questions can be addressed to Marjy Fiddler.
