In this seminar we will explore the world of Iron Age and Early Medieval textiles, both cloth and band weaving from Europe and the Mediterranean: cultural contexts, details of the find sites, fiber, structure, use, and the current theories about how they were produced. and who produced them. We’ll also explore what we don’t know about how cloth and bands were produced in this time period and explore what archaeologists have to say, compared to the knowledge that weavers bring to the discussion.
