From the people’s unique social structure and complex religious beliefs to their grandiose architecture dedicated to the afterlife, theirs is a history that never fails to impress. Tomb paintings-which date back 3000 years and can still be viewed today-are just as beautiful as the day were painted. My woven scarf is a humble offering to the artisans of Ancient Egypt. The scarf was woven following Theo Moorman’s instructions in her book “Weaving as an Art Form”, which I found perfect for the design. The design was inlaid by following my hand drawn “cartoon”. Theo Moorman describes the woven ground cloth as having “a rather irregular effect, sometimes suggesting a threading fault” which happily lends itself to looking like papyrus.

Shannon Mathers, Affiliate member from Hawaii Winner: Judge’s Choice – 1st Place, sponsored by Whidbey Weavers GuildBest Inspiration from Weaving History Materials & Technique: Structure: Theo Moorman; Source: Weaving as an Art Form (book) Warp: 8/2 Tencel (ground cloth); 20/2 mercerized cotton (tie-downs)Weft: 8/2 Tencel Woven on an 8S Macomber “Baby Mac” Description:The rich history of… Read More »An Offering to the Gods

["post-25176","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
