Yarn Details and SETT:<\/strong> Warp: gold polyamide (Pingouin barcarolle 4-ply yarn, given to me by a friend, purchased at GoodWill)Weft: Variegated red\/lavender cotton, “corded” Green cotton, approx. 10\/2 Black wool, probably fingering weight. Sett: 12 epi. All yarns were “mystery yarns” (there was a label on the polyamide) in my stash. The project was a stash-busting weavealong for scarves offered online by Tien Chu and Janet Dawson. I don’t weave scarves, so I enlarged the project to a shawl.

Special Treatments: <\/strong>The polyamide 4-ply was so slick and tended to unravel that I had to flame-seal each thread as I tied on the warp before weaving and as I wound the fringe to finish the garment. The fringe still has a tendency to slip the finishing knot and unravel.
Textile Finishing: Hand wash in mild laundry liquid soap, spin dry, lay flat to finish drying.
Textile Challenges:<\/strong> Polyamide is a challenge to work with because it is so slick. Ask me about a blanket project gone awry\u2026 In the case of this shawl, the cotton and wool used as weft helped control the polyamide. The color combination worked much better than expected.
Garment Construction: No. I only twisted fringe and knotted to finish the starting and final ends.
