I am always looking for different structures and different design approaches to achieve these drafts. This scarf design was a blend of two different challenges; one from my local structures group to study double weave, and a design challenge from myself develop what I had learned in a summer 2024 lecture by Linda Schultz on tessellation designs. During the design process, I had several failed attempts at successfully using double weave, but the more I studied and played with the structure, the more I started to understand andappreciate the nuances. I was delighted that the design does not look recognizable in the tie-up, but once it’s repeated in the draft, you can see the tessellated cats emerge.

Jennifer Shuster-Clark, Seattle Weavers Guild, Seattle, WA Material & Technique: Double weave.
