I elongated the pattern and dramatically changed the sett and colors to create a tranquil palette, using Astra 5/2 cotton for warp and thin weft, plus 8/16 mop cotton doubled for the thick weft. I sett the project at 40 epi. I finished the ends with cavandoli knots in warp thread colors. I wove this on my Louet Delta 8H floor loom.

Description: I LOVE Rep Weave for so many reasons. It is a structure that can create a very utilitarian piece yet maintain an element of mystery. I find the use of blocks to make smooth color transitions magical. And Rep weave offers a chance to make subtle curves that you wouldn’t expect with a block weave. I also find using cavandoli knots provides a very tailored look and an additional point of interest, as opposed to a hem. The knots provide a mosaic of color that draws your eye gently into the fascination of the rep blocks.

Sharon Schroeder, Missoula Weavers Guild & Montana Assoc. of Weavers and Spinners, Missoula, Montana Material & Technique: This rep weave table runner was inspired by Lucienne Coifman’s pattern “Double Steps” in her book Rep Rips Reps Weave.
