Materials & Technique: Plain weave of my own design.

Warp: Silk/Merino fingerling weight yarn from Claudia McClains of Claudia Paints that my sister, Sarah Tremaine, dyed at a workshop in Harrisville, VA given by Claudia.
Weft: Some of the same Silk/Marino as Warp; mostly two strands of Indigo Zephyr by JaggerSpun

Description: In June of 2016 my sister, Sarah Tremaine, and I travelled to Provence, Giverny, and Paris where we relished in seeing the Provencial colors, the Impressionist art in various museums, and Monet’s amazing gardens. I could have stood for hours looking at Monet’s Water Lilies, particularly the Morning series, at the Musée de l’Orangerie.

Sarah sent me for Christmas that year a large skein (1750 yards) of silk/Merino fingerling weight yarn from Claudia McClains of Claudia Paints that Sarah had dyed at a workshop in Harrisville, VA given by Claudia. The yarn perfectly echoed the colors we had seen in Monet’s paintings and elsewhere during our trip yet I had no idea what to do with it or how. Last spring, I realized my sister would be 70 in October and decided to make each of us a shawl with “her “yarn. I did a sample and determined that using the same dyed yarn for the weft created too much of a plaid to my eye, so though I began and ended each shawl with the same weft yarn as the warp, I transitioned to Indigo Zephyr, using two strands to replicate the weight of the warp.
