The Fortune Keeper

Karla Herre, Boise Handweavers Guild, Boise, Idaho

Material & Technique: The front and back panels are made from handwoven fabric, while the interior panels and strap are crafted from eco-friendly cork fabric. I chose to weave a Blazing Shuttles variegated hand dyed Filpucca Italian cotton for the warp and mercerized cotton weft. The pattern selected is a classic 2/1 twill design from “The Handweavers Pattern Directory” Pg33-2, Woven on a 4 shaft Wolf Pup loom. The olive-green cork was chosen to accent the Mediterranean palate of the hand-woven Filpucci Italian cloth. The hardware selected is from Sally Tomato. I find Sally Tomato to be of high quality and a consistence product for my designs

Description: Inspired by a captivating Facebook post from the Many Shuttles Handweavers Bags group, this design marries tradition with a modern edge. The handwoven fabric is set against the bold, geometric backdrop of the Traudy Triangle Bag pattern, celebrated for its crisp lines and dynamic structure. Infused with the vibrant hues of the ANWG 2025 Conference color theme, the palette breathes contemporary life into a time-honored craft, creating an engaging dialogue between heritage and modernity. Each meticulously crafted triangle reflects the intricate process of weaving, while the vivid color accents evoke energy and innovation. The design not only honors the community’s creative spirit but also reimagines traditional techniques through a fresh lens, inviting viewers to witness the beauty of old-world craft reinterpreted for today’s aesthetic.
