Winner: Best Handwoven Shawl, sponsored by Rogue Valley Handweavers
Description: Accessory – Shawl. It is an original twill design using 8 shaft runs to create the crosses and repeated 4 shaft point twill for the grids. The warp yarn is hand dyed tencel and the weft is commercially dyed tencel. It was woven on an 8 shaft Schacht baby wolf loom. A few years ago I designed a stole to celebrate my friend’s ordination as a pastor. The draft focused on incorporating ornate crosses into the design. While I wove it, I found myself drawn to the portions of the fabric surrounding the crosses, they looked like grid squares. I always wanted to return to this draft and expand it to a shawl to see the effect of repeating the crosses making a grid of the grid squares. 21.25″ X 72″ plus 4″ fringe on each end
