Cozy Blues Scarf

Karen Sieradski, Eugene weavers Guild, Eugene, OR

Material & Technique: The warp is 3/2 cotton and weft is 8/2 Tencel. The warp was ice-dyed with Procion Fiber Reactive Dye in the colors Raven, Timberwolf, and Periwinkle. My collaborator, Cathy Barnes, provided the warp, dyes, instructions, and location for the ice-dyeing event. The 12-shaft twill draft is Handweaving.net #38021. I wove the scarf on my 12-shaft Macomber floor loom.

Description: I dyed the warp in this scarf at an ice-dyeing event conducted by the Eugene Weavers’ Guild. Although cotton, the warp is as soft as wool but not irritating. The navy Tencel weft enhances the scarf’s drape. In the ice-dyeing process, the dyes split into their various pigments. I was delighted with the tones of blue that resulted, with occasional appearances of plum and green. The value contrast of white and the deepest shades give the palette an interesting variety.
