Volunteer Opportunities

There are a number of volunteer opportunities for attendees to help with during conference week. While you are thinking about what workshops and events you want to participate in, please also consider volunteering a few hours while you are at the conference.

There is a section on the registration page where you can indicate your area of interest. The system will also show any schedule conflicts and send you reminders. Time slots will be organized in 2-hour shifts. There will also be training for each area when assignments are complete late spring.

Volunteering is a way to connect with other fiber artists and get a bird’s eye view on what it takes to make an event this big work smoothly. The conference would not happen without volunteers. We look forward to seeing you there.

Below are details for each area of interest.

Registration

Be the first person to welcome conference attendees. Duties will include checking in, handing out packets, bags, and answering initial questions.

Information Desk

Help answer any and all questions about the conference that attendees might have. From Hotel info, workshop schedule, vendor information, Bend information, to location of classrooms, we need folks to assist those who have questions. This desk will be open approximately 8am-5pm all week.

Marketplace Vendor/Guild Booth Exhibit Hall

We will need volunteers to be door monitors, help direct attendees around the hall, assist vendors in their booth when they need to take a break or lunch, roaming security for all the booths, as well as load-in and load-out help.

Show/Exhibit Areas

We will need volunteers to be door monitors, provide security for the exhibits, answer questions, and assist with the people’s choice voting.

Fashion Show

We will need models, and 1-2 people to assist the models on and off the runway. For the models, there will be some basic clothing requirements to serve as a base for featured garments. Models will need to try on garments by appointment at some time during the week, or, at the latest, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM on Friday. All models will need to attend the rehearsal from 5:00 to 6:00 PM on Saturday. Models will do their own hair and makeup. The fashion show chair and volunteer coordinator will discuss details with models well before the conference.

Classroom Assistants

We will request a volunteer from the attending students for each workshop and seminar that needs an assistant. Not all instructors have requested an assistant. Those duties may include, taking roll, collecting supply fees, passing out handouts, limited set up and take down capabilities, and general assistance for the instructor. This is a chance to work a little closer with your favorite instructor.
