Tsujigahana: A Marriage of Shibori and Hand-Painting Techniques

Tsujigahana is a uniquely Japanese combination of shibori and hand-painting techniques, which affords the artist a great deal of control over mood and detail. This process has been popularized in recent years by the exquisite work of Itchiku Kubota. John will walk you through all of the basic steps employing a range of traditional tools and supplies along with sensuous Japanese silks and cherry-blossom-patterned cotton damask. Everything you’ll need in class is covered by your materials fee – nothing to bring but a sense of adventure! (Note the few supplies you should bring below…apron, gloves, etc)

Leader: John Marshall
Duration: 3 Days — Full
Level: All levels
Student supplies to bring: Apron, gloves, roll of paper towels, newsprint
Materials Fee: $150; Includes all consumable materials needed in class (yardage, dyes, resist, etc.) and use of all necessary equipment; a thumb-drive with directions, historical information, and movie clips.
