Janis Thompson teaches multiple subjects related to Fiber Arts. Her career started early as a self taught seamstress then evolved into knitting, spinning, weaving, natural dyeing and eco-printing.
As the in-house dye mistress for Eugene Textile Center, she applies color to many fibers, yarns & cloth. Janis teaches Yarn Design, Wild Weaving, Mixed-Media Felting, Eco-Printing and several dyeing techniques, including Natural Dyeing and Eco-Printing. Janis has a loose, over the top teaching style. Her enthusiasm is infectious and inspiring to her students.
Her book, Bundle, Steam, Print! is a guide to the simple chemistry of Natural Dyeing combined with Eco-Print. Published in May of 2019,
Her colorful book has sold many hundreds of copies. Printing with plants and natural dyeing has gained worldwide popularity in recent years.
Janis teaches all over the country for Guilds, HGA’s Convergence and at many Fiber Festivals. Her passion is on full display as one of the organizers of the Annual Black Sheep Gathering in Albany, Oregon. BSG is celebrating its 47th year as the Biggest and longest running Fiber Festival in the Pacific Northwest.
